Who we are

The Fine Print is operated by Ben Polak. For the purposes of UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), Ben Polak is the data controller.

What we collect

When you use The Fine Print, we collect:

  • Your name and email address — provided when you submit a contract for review
  • Contract text — the clauses or contract you paste into the tool
  • Optional context — follower count and deal context, if you provide them
  • Contact form messages — your name, email, and message if you use the contact form

Third-party processors

We use the following third-party services to operate The Fine Print:

  • Anthropic (Claude API) — processes your contract text to generate reviews. Based in the US. Anthropic's API does not use your inputs for model training. See Anthropic's privacy policy.
  • Vercel — hosts the website. Based in the US. See Vercel's privacy policy.
  • Resend — sends contact form emails. Based in the US. See Resend's privacy policy.

Data retention

  • Contract text — not stored after the review session ends. It is processed in real-time and not saved to any database.
  • Name and email — retained for as long as necessary for our legitimate business purposes, or until you ask us to delete them.
  • Contact form messages — retained for as long as needed to respond and follow up.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interest
  • Withdraw consent for marketing communications at any time
  • Lodge a complaint with the ICO (ico.org.uk)

Cookies

The Fine Print does not use cookies for tracking or advertising. Vercel may set essential cookies for hosting functionality.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top will reflect the most recent version.
